A woman playing piano while a toddler blows a trumpet beside her.

About Jonathan

Lifelong musician. Jazz soul. A comeback story in every note.

Jonathan Hoehn’s journey with the trumpet began before he could walk. Raised in a home filled with music, he first reached for his father’s horn as a toddler — and never let go. By third grade, he was already performing, and by sixth grade he had earned a spot in the high school band. His love for the trumpet only deepened through high school and into adult life, with performances ranging from intimate church services to full-scale concert productions.

But in November 2022, everything changed.

Jonathan suffered an almost fatal brain injury. Overnight, the music stopped — and the fight of his life began.

What followed became far more than a physical recovery. For Jonathan, the brain injury became a dividing line in his life — a painful mercy, a daily reminder of human weakness, and a renewed call to depend fully on Christ. Before the injury, Jonathan had battled alcoholism, a struggle that deeply affected his family, relationships, work, and sense of self. Since before his stroke in November 2022, he has not had one drop of alcohol.

At first, the injury gave him the leverage to stop drinking. Over time, it became something much deeper: his “limp” — a constant reminder that he is not self-sufficient, that grace is not theoretical, and that Christ’s strength is made perfect in weakness.

Today, Jonathan does not see his recovery merely as a story of personal resilience. He sees it as a testimony of God’s mercy. His continued ability to play the trumpet is not simply about overcoming a brain injury. It is about being preserved, humbled, sobered, and given a voice through music.

Jonathan is a professional trumpet artist based in Denver. His performances blend jazz, classical, sacred, and cinematic themes, all colored by a story of resilience, repentance, grace, and redemption. Whether performing for a wedding ceremony, sacred concert, private event, or original recording, Jonathan plays with a depth that only comes from having lost — and fought — for the chance to play again.

He is currently recording his second album, If I Only Had a Brain — a genre-blending jazz project born from imagination, healing, friendship, and hope. His first album, sacred concert performances, wedding ceremonies, dances, and other collaborations have touched audiences across Colorado and beyond.

Today, Jonathan continues to perform widely while studying with Caleb Hudson, formerly of Canadian Brass and currently Professor at the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas.

“I’m determined to make the most of the incredible opportunities I’ve been given. I work hard every day to perfect my craft, because I want my music to bring hope, joy, and inspiration to those who listen. But more than anything, I want my story and my trumpet to point beyond me — to the sustaining grace of Christ.”

You’ll find samples of Jonathan’s music — both audio and video — throughout this site, along with opportunities to book him for concerts, weddings, sacred events, or private performances. My Imagination is available as a physical CD here, or digitally on Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube.

Enjoy the music — and thank you for listening.
